Description

Xenical is an oral capsule consisting of a peripherally acting antiobesity drug called orlistat. We carry both the brand choice and generic alternative of Xenical in 120mg!

Xenical is used to as an aid in weight loss or as an aid to keep the weight off. Xenical must be used by adults and used together with a reduced calorie diet. Typically, this medication is used by those who are obese or those who have weight-related medical problems. Losing weight is important for those who are overweight heading towards obesity and those already obese because obesity can cause complications such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and generally a shorter life.

Xenical (orlistat) is effective at aiding in weight loss because it is able to block a certain enzyme in the body that breaks down the fat in your diet. In order for the body to absorb the fat, it must be broken down first. When the drug blocks this from happening, instead of absorbing the fat into the body, the fat will pass out of the body through bowel movements. This medication does not block the absorption of calories from sugar and other non-fat foods, which is why it is important you follow the diet-side of treatment as well.

Your doctor will tell you before prescribing you Xenical (orlistat) exactly how to take this medication. Follow his or her directions, they can usually be found on the prescription label if you forget. Do not use more or less of a dose than directed to by your doctor. Ensure you are following the entire treatment plan, including the diet and exercise side portion. Ensure the lid is tightly closed when not in use. Avoid keeping this medication in an area where it risks becoming wet or hot. Keep out of reach of children.

This medication is commonly taken 3 times per day with each main meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Each meal should contain some fat (no more than 30% of the calories for that meal). The medication can be taken within 1 hour of the meal. If you don’t eat a meal or it doesn’t contain fat, skip your dose until your next meal (with fat).

Fat content of your diet should not exceed more than 30% of your total daily calorie intake. If you eat 1,200 calories in a day, no more than 360 (30% of 1,200) calories should be in the form of fat.

FAQs

What is Xenical?

Xenical is a prescription medication containing a lipase inhibitor called Orlistat. It is available as both the brand-name product and the generic alternative in the form of a capsule. Each capsule contains 120mg of Orlistat, which is administered by mouth, metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract, and excreted through human waste with a half-life of 1-2 hours. You can purchase this medication from My Drug Center.

What is Xenical used for?

Xenical is used as an additional treatment alongside a reduced calorie diet to help with weight loss in adults. It is usually prescribed to patients who are obese or those who are at risk at becoming obese.  Obese is a condition where a person is well above normal weight, to the point where health complications become a subsequent risk, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and an overall shorter life expectancy. Generally, a person who is obese will have a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or higher. Using this medication can make it easier for those who are obese or risk becoming obese to lose weight and avoid these further complications, as well as keeping the weight off.

How does Xenical work?

Orlistat allows fat to pass through bowel movements instead of being absorbed and stored into the body. It does this by blocking a certain enzyme (pancreatic lipase) from breaking down the fat from your diet. In order for the body to absorb and store the fat, it must first be broken down by this enzyme. If it is not broken down, it will instead pass through bowel movements. Therefore, Orlistat works by preventing the breakdown of fat. However, Orlistat cannot prevent calories from sugar and other non-fat foods from being broken down and absorbed into the body, which is why it is important to maintain a reduced calorie diet during treatment; the medication is used as an aid and may not be as effective by itself.

If you do not see improvement within 2 weeks, you may want to consider consulting with your doctor.

How to use Xenical: each meal should contain some fat; fat content of your diet should not exceed more than 30% of your total daily calorie intake. How effective is Xenical?

Xenical has been on the market since 1998 and has since been prescribed to over 19.5 million patients and – Orlistat, the active ingredient inside Xenical – is the leading medication in weight loss today.  In a study, eight obese patients (with a BMI over 30) were divided into two groups; Group 1 was instructed to take Xenical three times per day (120mg) while group 2 was instructed to take a placebo three times per day. The results included a reduction in weight, waist circumference, BMI, total cholesterol, and LDL as follows:

Group 1 (Orlistat) lost:  4.65kg in weight; 1.91kg/m2 in BMI; 4.84cm in waist circumference; 10.68mg in cholesterol; and 5.87mg in LDL levels.

Group 2 (Placebo) lost: 2.5kg in weight; 0.64kg/m2 in BMI; 2cm in waist circumference; 6.18mg in cholesterol; and 2.33mg in LDL levels.

These results, which were calculated over a 24 week period, show that Xenical can be an effective weight loss aid. Additionally, another clinical study showed that patients who followed a reduced calorie diet while taking Orlistat lost an additional 2-3kg in weight in one year compared to those who do not use the medication.
