What is Vytorin used for?

Vytorin is prescribed to decrease the blood levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides, to increase levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and to lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood). This medication is often used together with a low-fat diet, along with other treatments to help those who cannot lower their cholesterol levels with diet and exercise alone.

How does Vytorin work?

Vytorin is an oral medication that contains a combination of Ezetimibe/Simvastatin dosage. Ezetimibe inhibits the small intestine of absorbing cholesterol from the foods that is consumed. Simvastatin belongs to a group of drugs called statins, which lowers the amount of cholesterol that the liver produces by blocking the liver’s cholesterol-synthesizing enzyme.

Before taking your prescribed medication, read all the instructions that were provided by your pharmacist. Take Vytorin orally once a day in the evening. This medication can be taken with or without food. Do not change or increase your Vytorin dosage without consulting with your doctor first.

Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, depression, memory problems, confusion, back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, numbness or tingly feeling, trouble having an erection, sleep problems (insomnia), or cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat), muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness), or changes in the amount of urine.
