What is Vytorin used for?
Vytorin is prescribed to decrease the blood levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides, to increase levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and to lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood). This medication is often used together with a low-fat diet, along with other treatments to help those who cannot lower their cholesterol levels with diet and exercise alone.
You can buy Vytorin (Ezetimibe/Simvastatin) at My Drug Center, and we have the Ezetimibe/Simvastatin generic available as well.
How does Vytorin work?
Vytorin is an oral medication that contains a combination of Ezetimibe/Simvastatin dosage. Ezetimibe inhibits the small intestine of absorbing cholesterol from the foods that is consumed. Simvastatin belongs to a group of drugs called statins, which lowers the amount of cholesterol that the liver produces by blocking the liver’s cholesterol-synthesizing enzyme.
Before taking your prescribed medication, read all the instructions that were provided by your pharmacist. Take Vytorin orally once a day in the evening. This medication can be taken with or without food. Do not change or increase your Vytorin dosage without consulting with your doctor first.
For optimal results take this medication on a regular basis. You should continue taking this medication even if you feel well.
This medication may contain medical and non medical ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Consult with your doctor about any known allergies before taking Vytorin or the Ezetimibe/Simvastatin generic. Speak with your doctor about any known medical conditions relating to liver disease, kidney disease, and alcohol abuse. Tell your doctor about any current medications or supplementation to avoid interactions with Vytorin.
Avoid having grapefruit or grapefruit juice as it can effect how the medication is absorbed into the body. This can reduce how effective the Ezetimibe/Simvastatin dosage in this medication is.
Limit or avoid alcohol while taking Vytorin to prevent liver damage. Additionally you can speak with your doctor to know the acceptable limits of alcohol while taking Vytorin.
Some Vytorin side effects include:
Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, depression, memory problems, confusion, back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, numbness or tingly feeling, trouble having an erection, sleep problems (insomnia), or cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat), muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness), or changes in the amount of urine.
If any side effects of Ezetimibe/Simvastatin become unmanageable speak with your doctor or pharmacist for help in managing any side effects. For any serious side effects that occur speak with your doctor right away for further treatment options.

Along with a proper diet, this medication is used to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats and to raise the “good” cholesterol in the blood. Some of the lifestyle changes you will have to undergo while taking this medication are exercising, losing weight, and to quit smoking if you do so already. This medication comes in four different doses. They are 10mg/10mg, 10mg/20mg, 10mg/40mg, and 10mg/80mg. Each drug has its own use. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs through your diet. And Simvastatin reduces the amount of cholesterol made by the liver.
