Do not use Vibramycin (doxycycline)
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics; tell your doctor about all allergies before starting a new medication.
Children should not use this medication; the only exception is in severe or life-threatening conditions such as asthma or Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Only use this medication in a child if the benefits outweigh the risks (of tooth development issues).
Dose adjustment or special precautions may be required
Before using this medication, make sure you tell your doctor about all medical conditions, including if you have ever had liver or kidney disease, asthma or sulfite allergy, increased pressure inside the skull, or if you also take isotretinoin, seizure medication, or a blood thinner, such as warfarin.
Risks
Using this medication while pregnant could cause bone and tooth development to become affected. It may also cause permanent tooth discoloration later in the baby’s life. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while using this medication.
This medication can make birth control pills less effective. Consult your doctor about appropriate birth control methods to use to prevent pregnancy while being treated with Vibramycin. Your doctor may recommend condoms, diaphragm, or spermicide.
This drug can pass into breast milk and may affect tooth and bone development in nursing infant. Do not breast feed while using Vibramycin.
Other
Before starting Vibramycin for the treatment of chlamydia, your doctor may want you tested beforehand to ensure you do not have gonorrhea.
