Description

What is Sectral (Acebutolol) prescribed for?

Blood pressure is the measure of the force of blood that pushes against the blood vessel walls. The heart pumps blood into blood vessels which carry the blood throughout the body. High blood pressure can be dangerous because it makes the heart work harder to pump blood out to the body and contributes to the hardening of arteries, stroke, kidney disease and heart failure.

This medication is used to treat High Blood Pressure and irregular heartbeat, which is called arrhythmia. Lowering one's blood pressure helps to prevent stroke, heart attacks and kidney problems. Treating irregular heartbeat assists the heart in functioning better and with less strain. This is a positive outcome since irregular heartbeats can be quite serious and may even lead to a heart attack.

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. And it functions by blocking the action of a natural substance in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect, in turn, lowers heart rate, blood pressure and strain on the heart.
