What is Rapaflo (Silodosin) prescribed for?

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is an enlarged prostate gland, and along with it comes symptoms of troubles in urination, weak urine stream, and not feeling empty after urination. Treatments usually include lifestyle changes, medicine, and surgery.

This medication is used by men to treat various symptoms of an enlarged prostate. And while it does not shrink the prostate, it does help to relieve symptoms by working to relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder. Taking this medication curves the symptoms which also include the urgency to urinate, especially in the middle of the night. Silodosin belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha blockers.

Directions

This medication is taken by mouth, usually with a meal.

However if you have difficulties with swallowing the pill, you may sprinkle the netire contents of the capsule in a small amount of applesauce. Swallow the mixture whole right away, and do not save anymore for any future use. Also do not use hot applesauce, only cooled. When finished, drink a glass of water after each dose.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and your response to the treatment.  Do not stop taking this medication , you should be taking it regularly to gain the most benefit.

Before taking this medication, it is best to advise your doctor if you are allergic Silodosin; or to any other medications or allergies in general. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

How long does Rapaflo stay in your system?

Raoaflo has a half life of 13.3 hours, and since this medication does have a long half life it may take awhile before it full leaves your system. It is difficult to predict this due to the influence of many factors such as age, metabolism, state of health and frequency and dose of the drug itself.

 

How long does it take Rapaflo to work?

This medication takes about 2 and a half weeks before you begin to feel the full effect.

 

What are the side effects of the drug Rapaflo?

Some of the more common side effects for this medication are listed as follows; Dizziness, weakness, headache, insomnia, diarrhea, stomach pain, and decreased amount of semen released during sex, abnormal ejaculation, runny or stuffy nose, or a sore throat. Keep in mind that these are not all of the side effects listed for this medication, and if you have experienced these side effects be sure to notify your doctor if they persist or worsen.
