Description

What is Naprosyn EC (Naproxen) prescribed for?

This medication is used to relieve mild to moderate pain from various conditions.  Most that suffer from arthritis use it to calm down the swelling and joint stiffness. This medication is classified as a NSAID, which means it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

Inflammation is a process in which the body’s white blood cells and substances they produce would normally protect us from the infection of foreign organisms, such as bacteria and viruses.  However, with arthritis, the body’s immune system triggers an inflammatory response when there are no foreign invaders in your system to fight off.  And thus, the body’s normal protective immune system can cause damage onto itself, and damages its own tissues.

This medication works to reverse that, and to stop your body’s production of substances are causes the inflammation.

This medication is to be taken by mouth, usually twice a day, and can be taken with or without food. Swallow the medication whole. Do not break, crush or chew on the tablets. Doing so can release the entire drug at once and thus increase the risk of any side effects. When taking this mediation, it is best to take it with a full glass of water. Do not lie down after taking this drug for at least 10 minutes.

Remember the dosage is based on your medical condition and your response to the treatment. To reduce any risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects, this medication may be given to you at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. Do not increase the dose yourself or take this medication more often than needed.
