What is Micardis HCT used for?
Micardis HCT is used to treat high blood pressure, which is also known as hypertension. High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This could result in damaged blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys which could result in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. This drug is often used as part of combination therapy to treat high blood pressure.
How does Micardis HCT work?
Micardis HCT is an oral medication that contains a combination of the active ingredients Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Telmisartan works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in your body called angiotensin II. It stops blood vessels from narrowing, which improves blood flow to the heart and artieries. The Hydrochlorothiazide dosage in the medication works by blocking salt and water reabsorption in the kidneys, which increases the output of urine containing increased amounts of water and salt. The combination of Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide reduces blood pressure more than either drug alone.
Before taking Micardis HCT or the generic alternative, read all the instructions and paper work that given to you by your pharmacist. Take your Micardis HCT dosage orally once a day. Make sure you take it at the same time each day to create a routine for yourself and to ensure an even spread of the Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide dosage in your system. This medication should be taken on a regular basis to have optimal results. The Micardis HCT dosage that you take will depend on your condition and your age. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change or increase your dose. You should continue taking this medication even if you feel well.
Micardis HCT or the Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide generic may contain medical and non medical ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Consult with your doctor about any known allergies before taking Micardis HCT. Speak with your doctor about any known medical conditions relating to problems with kidney disease, diabetes, heart failure, liver disease, or blockage of your bile duct. Tell your doctor about any current medications or supplementation to avoid interactions or unwanted side effects of Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide.
