What is MetroCream used for?

MetroCream is a used to treat certain inflamed skin rashes such as rosacea. Rosacea causes long-term inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, and/or eyelids, with increased redness or acne-like eruptions in these areas of the face.  MetroCream is not a cure for this condition, but it reduces the symptoms of rosacea such as inflammation and redness of the skin.

How does MetroCream work?

MetroCream is a topical medication that contains the active ingredient Metronidazole, which is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. When applied as directed, MetroCream is absorbed into the skin where it interferes with the production of the chemicals that cause inflammation and swelling.

Before taking MetroCream, read all the instructions and paper work that given to you by your pharmacist. Apply and rub in a thin film of the topical gel, cream, or lotion twice daily, morning and evening, to the entire affected area after washing. For some strengths of metronidazole topical, your doctor may advise you to apply a thin film once daily to the affected area.

Make sure you take it at the same time each day to create a routine for yourself and to ensure an even spread of the Metronidazole dosage in your system. This medication should be taken on a regular basis to have optimal results. The MetroCream dosage that you use will depend on your condition and your age. Use the MetroCream dosage exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change or increase your dose without consulting your doctor first.

MetroCream may contain medical and non medical ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Be sure to discuss other medical conditions, known allergies, and list any over-the-counter or prescription medications, and herbal products you are currently taking.

Side Effects

Some MetroCream side effects include:

Mild burning or stinging, numbness or tingly in your hands or feet, mild skin redness or irritation, dry or itchy skin, nausea, and metallic taste in your mouth

If any side effects of Metronidazole become unmanageable speak with your doctor or pharmacist for help in managing any side effects. For any serious side effects that occur speak with your doctor right away for further treatment options.

A: Use the medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and use the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

A: This medication is stored at room temperature, and should be kept away from children and pets. Do not throw away this medication in wastewater. If you are uncertain how to dispose of this medication speak with your pharmacist for help in safely disposing of this medication.

 

Q: Is this medication safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding?

A:  This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, contact your doctor immediately. This medication passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are using topical metronidazole, it may affect your baby.  Consult your doctor to understand the risk in using this medication while breastfeeding.
