What is Lescol XL (Fluvastatin) prescribed for?

This medication is used along with a proper diet can help lower bad cholesterol and fats, such as LDL, and triglycerides. And raise good cholesterols in the blood. This medication works by reducing the amount of cholesterol that is made by the liver. And by lowering the bad, and raising the good cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps to prevent strokes and heart attacks.

Keep in mind that in addition to changes to your diet, other lifestyle changes may also help this mediation in working better, which includes; exercising, losing weight, and quite smoking.

This medication comes in the singular dose of 80mg. Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. If your doctor or pharmacist has given you some information in the form of a pamphlet, take the time to read up on this drug, and if you have any questions or concerns regarding this medication, please consult your doctor.

This medication is to be taken by mouth, with or without food. Or as prescribed to you by your doctor. This medicine is usually taken once daily.

Remember that the dosage is based on your medical condition, age, and your response to the treatment. Keep in mind that other medications that you take may come into play on this as well. If you are taking other medications that lower your cholesterol, take this medication at least 1 hour before or  at least 4 hours after you take your other cholesterol medications.

Cautions

Before taking this medication, it is best to advise your doctor if you are allergic to Fluvastatin; or to any other medications or allergies in general.

Also it is best to notify your doctor of your medical history. Inform you doctor if you have had any of the following; liver disease, kidney disease, alcohol use.

Limit any alcoholic beverages. Daily use of alcohol may increase the risk of liver problems, especially when combined with Fluvastatin.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur while taking this mediation, they are as follows; Stomach upset may occur. However, if these symptoms do persist or worsen, it is best to consult with your doctor.

A very small number of people taking fluvastatin may have mild memory problems or confusion. If these rare effects occur, talk to your doctor.

Rarely, statins may cause or worsen diabetes. Talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks.

This drug may rarely cause muscle problems (which can rarely lead to very serious conditions called rhabdomyolysis and autoimmune myopathy). Tell your doctor right away if you develop any of these symptoms during treatment and if these symptoms persist after your doctor stops this drug: muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness), signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine).

This medication may rarely cause liver problems. If you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects, tell your doctor right away: yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, severe stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

 What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.

 

 What is the best way to store this medication?

This medication is stored at room temperature, and should be kept away from children and pets. Do not throw away this medication in the wastebasket. If you are uncertain how to dispose of this medication speak with your pharmacist for help in safely disposing of this medication.
