Description

Hygroton is an oral tablet made up of a diuretic/water pill called chlorthalidone. We carry the generic alternative to this medication in 50mg!

Hygroton is prescribed to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Untreated hypertension can cause strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Blood pressure readings consist of two numbers, the systolic (first/top number) and the diastolic (second/bottom number). Normal blood pressure is 120/80, elevated blood pressure is 120-129/< 80 (less than 80), stage 1 high blood pressure is 130-139/80-89, stage 2 high blood pressure is 140+/90+ and a hypertension crisis is 180+/120+.

Hygroton (chlorthalidone) is effective in the treatment of high blood pressure because of its ability to decrease the amount of salt and water in the body to help decrease swelling and breathing problems caused by extra fluid in the lungs. It decreases the amount of salt and water by causing frequent urination. When there is less fluid in the body, the blood pressure goes down. It also helps by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more smoothly.

Always take prescribed medication the way your doctor has directed you to. This is important in order to avoid adverse interactions, unwanted side effects and ineffectiveness in treatment.

Take Hygroton by mouth with food, usually once a day (taken in the morning). It is best taken in the morning because if you take it too close to bedtime, you may find yourself up in the middle of the night having to urinate often.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Ensure you do not miss a dose by taking the tablet at the same time every day. You may also use a pillbox to help remind yourself to take the tablet.

Your dose will be based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
