Certain diseases and conditions may interact with Hiprex or cause a contradiction. If you are a person with severe liver disease or kidney disease, your doctor will likely suggest you find an alternative medication. This medication may not be safe for you to take. Consult your doctor for more information.
You may also need to find an alternative medication if you are currently taking a sulfa drug or are dehydrated. You may find yourself experiencing serious side effects, ineffectiveness or adverse interactions.
Other conditions, even if they are no longer an issue, may not be the greatest to mix with methenamine hippurate; however a dose adjustment or special cautions can be made to allow for an effective and safe treatment using Hiprex. Speak with your doctor if you have or had liver disease, asthma, an allergy to aspirin, or an allergy to yellow food dye.
Hiprex has potential to harm an unborn baby when taken during the first half of pregnancy. It is unknown if it will harm a baby in the final months of pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant.
