What is Elocon Cream (Mometasone) prescribed for?

Eczema, prsoriasus, various allergies and rashes can be treated by using this medication. Elocon Cream decreases the inflammation, itching, and redness that these conditions may cause. It is what is known as a medium-strength corticosteroid. The cream is just one format this medication comes in. It also comes in an ointment and a lotion as well. Your doctor will choose the best type of product for you. Read any of the information your doctor has given you, and if you have any questions direct those to your doctor.

This medication comes in the singular dose of 0.10%.  Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. This medication is to be used on the skin only.  Do not use on the face, groin or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Clean and dry the affected are, as well as wash your hands well before applying the medication. Apply a thin film to the affected area, usually once daily, and gently rub it into the skin.  Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other dressings unless you are instructed to do so otherwise by your doctor.

Do not wash or rinse off the medication once it has been applied.  Was your hands with soap and water after each use.

Before using mometasone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history. Especially if you have had any of the following; poor blood circulation, diabetes, immune system problems.

Corticosteroids can make skin infections worse and more difficult to treat. Tell your doctor if you have a skin infection so it can be treated. Tell your doctor promptly if your condition does not improve or if you have worsening skin symptoms.

Rarely, using corticosteroid medications for a long time or over large areas of skin can make it more difficult for your body to respond to physical stress. Therefore, before having surgery or emergency treatment, or if you get a serious illness/injury, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication or have used this medication within the past few months.

Common side effects of this medication do include the following; Burning, itching, or stinging may occur when you apply this medication, but usually only lasts a short time. It is best to speak with your doctor promptly if you are experiencing any of these side effects.

However unlikely, these serious side effects  should to brought to you doctor’s attention right way;  stretch marks, skin thinning/discoloration, acne, hair bumps (folliculitis).

Rarely, it is possible this medication will be absorbed from the skin into the bloodstream. This can lead to side effects of too much corticosteroid. These side effects are more likely in children, and in people who use this medication for a long time or over large areas of the skin. Tell your doctor right away if any of the following side effects occur: unusual/extreme tiredness, weight loss, headache, swelling ankles/feet, increased thirst/urination, vision problems.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

What happens if I suddenly stop taking this medication?

There may be a relapse in symptoms as well as side effects. You should speak your doctor before stop taking this medication.

What is the best dosage to take?

The diagnosis with your doctor will be able to determine the best dosage for your treatment. Work with your doctor closely for dosage and dosing schedules.

What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.

What is the best way to store this medication?
