Description

What is Elestat Eye Drops (Epinastine) prescribed for?

Elestat is an antihistamine, which is used as a treatment against allergy symptoms in the eyes. Common eye allergies affect the clear layer of skin that covers the front of your eyes, and the inside of your eye lids.  This is also the same type of skin that lines the inside of your nose; therefore the same things can trigger an allergic reaction in both areas. And the common triggers include; pollen, weeds, grass, dust and pet dander.  This medication is used to put a stop to the symptoms.

This medication comes in a singular dose of 0.05%.  Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. If your doctor or pharmacist has given you some information in the form of a pamphlet, take the time to read up on this drug, and if you have any questions or concerns regarding this medication, please consult your doctor.

To apply the eye drops, it is best to wash your hands first. To avoid any contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface. Do not wear any contact lenses while taking this medication.

Tilt your head back and look upward and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place the prescribed amount of drops into the eye. Then look downward and gently close your eyes for about 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger over your eye and gently apply a little bit of pressure.  Doing so will prevent the mediation from draining out. Do your best not to blink and do not rub your eye.

Do not rinse the dropper; replace the dropper cap after each use. If you wear contact lenses, make sure to remove them before applying this medication, and once finished wait for 15 minutes before replacing them.

If you are taking any other eye medications along with this medication, wait at least 10 minutes before applying the other medications.
