What is Drysol Solution (Aluminum Chloride) prescribed for?

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder. This medication helps control the excessive sweating.  In short, this is a medicinal antiperspirant, and it works by closing your sweat glands. While it is classified as a deodorant, it is sometimes used in various other areas of the body, such as the scalp, hands, feet, and of course, the underarms.

This medication comes in the singular strength of 20%. Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. If your doctor or pharmacist has given you some information in the form of a pamphlet, take the time to read up on this drug, and if you have any questions or concerns regarding this medication, please consult your doctor.

This medication is to be applied to the skin only.  Make sure the affected area is completely dry before applying the medication. Once done, apply a thin layer of the medication onto the affected area, then gently rub into the skin. This is usually done once daily at bedtime for about 2 to 3 days until the sweating is under control.

After applying the medication, let it dry. If you had to apply it to the hands or feet, wrap up the area with plastic wrap or cover with a mitten or sock. If applying to the underarms, it is best to wear a shirt. When applying to the scalp, wear a shower cap.

Leave this medication on for about 6 to 8 hours. In the morning, wash the area with soap and water (shampoo for scalp), and towel dry. Do not use other antiperspirants or deodorants while using this medication.

Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Aluminum Chloride; or if you have any other allergies in general.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.

This medication may stain clothing or certain fabrics or harm metals. Use this medication cautiously to avoid contact with clothes, bed linens, other fabrics, or metals. Let this medication dry completely before putting clothing over the treated area.

Common side effects of this medication do include the following; Tingling, mild itching, or irritation may occur when the medication is first applied. It is best to speak with your doctor promptly if you are experiencing any of these side effects.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

What happens if I suddenly stop taking this medication?

There may be a relapse in symptoms as well as side effects. You should speak your doctor before stop taking this medication.


What is the best dosage to take?

The diagnosis with your doctor will be able to determine the best dosage for your treatment. Work with your doctor closely for dosage and dosing schedules.


What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.


What is the best way to store this medication?
