What is Dovonex Scalp Solution (Calcipotriene) prescribed for?
Dovonex is a man made form of vitamin D. It helps in the involvement of the growth and development of skin cells. Dovonex is used as a treatment against plaque psoriasis, which is a long term skin disease which allows skin cells to grow at a faster rate. In turn, this abnormal growth causes a buildup of cells that come to the surface of the skin, and create red, raised patches of skin with silver colored scales. This medication, Dovonex, works by abating the growth of the skin cells, which in turn reduces the growth of the scales.
This medication is to be applied to the skin only. To start, comb your hair to remove any scaly flakes. Then apply the medication to the scalp, but only to the affected areas and then gently rub into the skin. This is usually done twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Take care and make sure that you do not let the solution spread to unaffected areas. If you get this medication in the eyes, nose, mouth or inside the vagina, make sure you flush with plenty of water.
Do not apply this medication more often or longer then what has been prescribed to you.
