An overactive bladder is caused by urinary muscle spasms, thus causing a frequent feeling of the need to urinate to a degree that may have negative impacts on one’s personal life. There are many instances that can cause OAB, such as multiply pregnancies, being overweight and genetic weaknesses, all of these can increase you risk.

This medication is a long-acting form of Oxybutynin that is used to treat overactive bladder and urinary conditions. Overall this medication relaxes the muscles in the bladder and helps decrease the urgency and frequent urination. Oxybutynin belongs to a class of drugs known as antispasmodics.

This medication comes in two different strengths such as 10mg and 5mg. Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. If your doctor or pharmacist has given you some information in the form of a pamphlet, take the time to read up on this drug, and if you have any questions or concerns regarding this medication, please consult your doctor.

This medication is to be taken by mouth, usually once a day, with a full glass of water. And it can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, chew or break the tablet. Doing so can release the medication all at once, which may result in various side effects.

Take this medication regularly if you wish to gain the full benefit.

Remember that the dosage give to you is based on your medical condition and your response to the treatment. Do not take this medication for any longer then what has been prescribed to you and consult your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Oxybutynin; or if you have any other allergies in general.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: glaucoma, bladder disease (e.g., bladder outflow blockage, urinary retention), certain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis), heart disease (e.g., congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias), high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, loss of mental abilities (dementia), certain nervous system disorder (autonomic neuropathy), enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hypertrophy-BPH), stomach/intestinal disease (e.g., blockage, paralytic ileus, acid reflux disease, hiatal hernia, ulcerative colitis), severe throat/stomach/intestinal narrowing (strictures), overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), Parkinson's disease.

This drug may increase the risk for heatstroke because it causes decreased sweating. Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather, saunas, and during exercise or other strenuous activity.

Also inform you doctor if you may have had or have the following; glaucoma; liver disease; kidney disease; an enlarged prostate; ulcerative colitis; Parkinson's disease; a nerve disorder that affects your heart rate, blood pressure, or digestion; a muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis; or a stomach disorder such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or slow digestion.

Dry mouth, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, blurred vision, dry eyes, unusual taste in mouth, dry/flushed skin, stuffy nose, and cough may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

To prevent constipation, eat dietary fiber, drink enough water, and exercise. You may also need to take a laxative. Ask your pharmacist which type of laxative is right for you.

While rare, it is best to seek your doctor right away if you encounter these side effects; Eye pain, skin rash, and hives.

These are not all the side effects listed, if you do by chance feel something is different, notify you doctor right away.

What happens if I suddenly stop taking this medication?

There may be a relapse in symptoms as well as side effects. You should speak your doctor before stop taking this medication.

What is the best dosage to take?

The diagnosis with your doctor will be able to determine the best dosage for your treatment. Work with your doctor closely for dosage and dosing schedules.

What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.
