What is Sotalol used for?
Sotalol is an oral tablet made up of sotalol. Sotalol is a combination of a beta blocker and an anti-arrhythmic. We carry the generic alternative to Betapace, Sotalol, in 80mg and 160mg. The generic (sotalol) and brand choice (Betapace) are both just as effective and made with the same active ingredient, but may vary in color, form and price.
Sotalol (Betapace) is used to treat life-threatening rapid ventricular heartbeat (a malfunction in the heart's electrical system, also known as ventricular tachycardia, that causes more than 100 beats per minute with at least three irregular heartbeats in a row) and for the prevention of recurrent atrial fibrillation (a quivering or irregular heartbeat, also known as arrhythmia, that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications.). It is also used for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (rapid heart rate that starts in a part of the heart above the ventricles. "Paroxysmal" means from time to time). Those who have these conditions and suffer from severe weakness and shortness of breath would use Sotalol.
Sotalol works by slowing the heart rate and helps the heart beat in a more normal, consistent way.
