The BD Ultra Fine Pen Needle is used when patients with diabetes inject insulin. It is used with a syringe to inject medicine (insulin) directly into the blood line. Without a needle, syringes can only be used for oral administration (through the mouth), insulin must be injected straight into the bloodline in order to be effective.  The BD Ultra Fine Pen Needles are available in two sizes; 31G 5mm 3/16 and 31G 8mm 5/16”””.

  1. Hold the syringe in your hand like a pencil, with the needle pointed up.
  2. With the cap still on, pull back the plunger to the line on your syringe for your dose. This fills the syringe with air.
  3. Insert the needle into the rubber top.

Consult you pharmacist for info on needle safety.
