What is Avodart used for?

Avodart is a medication that is commonly prescribed to treat men who have symptoms of enlarged prostate gland, which is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Benign enlargement of the prostate is a problem that occurs in men as they get older. The prostate gland is located below the bladder, and as it enlarges, there are certain muscles in the gland that may become tight and get in the way of the tube that drains urine from the bladder (urethra). This results in problems with urinating such as frequency, a weak stream when urinating, or a feeling of not being able to empty the bladder completely.

You can buy Avodart online at My Drug Center. We have the Dutasteride generic alternative available as well.

How does Avodart work?

Avodart comes as a tablet to be taken orally, containing the active ingredient Dutasteride, which belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. The Dutasteride dosage of this medication works by stopping the conversion of testosterone into dihdrotestosterone (DHT) in the body.  DHT is the hormone that is responsible for prostate tissue growth. When too much prostate tissue develops, it causes trouble urination problems. Due to the fact that Avodart (Dutasteride) helps shrink the tissue and prevent the formation of DHT, it helps reduce and mange these symptoms.

Before taking Avodart or the Dutasteride generic, read all the instructions that was provided by your pharmacist. Take Avodart orally once a day. This medication can be administered with or without food. Make sure you take Avodart at the same time each day to create a routine for yourself and to ensure an even spread of the Dutasteride dosage in your system. For optimal results take this medication on a regular basis. Do not change or increase your dose. You should continue taking this medication even if you feel well.

Avodart or the Dutasteride generic may contain medical and non medical ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Consult with your doctor about any known allergies before taking Avodart. Speak with your doctor about any known medical conditions. Tell your doctor about any current medications or supplementation to avoid interactions with Avodart.

You should not donate any blood while taking Avodart. After six months of having stopped taking Avodart you will be clear to donate blood. Speak with your local blood donation clinic regarding any other restrictions that may prevent you from donating blood.

Some Avodart side effects include:

Sexual problems (such as decreased sexual interest/ability, decrease in the amount of semen/sperm released during sex), impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection), testicle pain or swelling, increased breast size, or breast tenderness.

If any side effects of Dutasteride become unmanageable speak with your doctor or pharmacist for help in managing any side effects. For any serious side effects that occur speak with your doctor right away for further treatment options.
