Anafranil SR is made up of a tricyclic antidepressant called clomipramine. It is available as its brand name Anafranil SR as well as its generic version, clomipramine. Both are just as effective; however clomipramine may have a different appearance and is cheaper in price. We carry both the brand and generic version in 75mg.

Anafranil SR is used to treat symptoms in people with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). OCD causes a person to have consistent unwanted thoughts (obsession) or urges (compulsions) repeated over and over again. It also helps treat depression and phobias. People with depression or phobias also experience a lot of constant unwanted thoughts. Clomipramine helps decrease obsessions and reduces compulsions by enhancing and restoring norepinephrine and serotonin (the chemical neurotransmitters in the brain which nerves use to communicate with each other). They do this by blocking their reuptake (absorption) and prolonging their activity.

Common side effects include increase in appetite and weight gain, headaches, dizziness, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, increased sweating, shaking hands, tremor, difficulty in passing urine, problems with their eyes, feeling tired or sleepy, sexual disturbances, and restlessness.

Uncommon but serious side effects include glaucoma, hepatitis causing jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes), and light colored urine, urinary retention, oedema (generalized swelling), hair loss, blood disorders (which might result in persistent sore throat, fever or frequent infections, unexplained bruising or bruising more easily).

What is Clomipramine?

Clomipramine is a drug used in medication for its therapeutic effects; it is the active ingredient found in Anafranil SR that makes it therapeutically effective. Each Anafranil SR capsule contains 75mg of clomipramine; capsules for this medication can be purchased as the brand or the generic alternative, which is sold as clomipramine. Clomipramine (Anafranil SR) is used for the treatment of an anxiety disorder called obsessive compulsive disorder. This medication requires a prescription.

Why is Clomipramine so expensive?

Clomipramine is considered a tier 4 drug in the United States; this means that, asides from specialty drugs, it is going to be one of the more expensive drugs compared to its alternatives. The exact reason why this drug is listed as a tier 4 medication, making it an expensive medication, is unclear. However, other areas around the world offer clomipramine for a much more affordable cost. You can access these prices, such as 100 clomipramine tablets for $74.00, when you order through My Drug Center.
