Anafranil SR is made up of a tricyclic antidepressant called clomipramine. It is available as its brand name Anafranil SR as well as its generic version, clomipramine. Both are just as effective; however clomipramine may have a different appearance and is cheaper in price. We carry both the brand and generic version in 75mg.

Anafranil SR is used to treat symptoms in people with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). OCD causes a person to have consistent unwanted thoughts (obsession) or urges (compulsions) repeated over and over again. It also helps treat depression and phobias. People with depression or phobias also experience a lot of constant unwanted thoughts. Clomipramine helps decrease obsessions and reduces compulsions by enhancing and restoring norepinephrine and serotonin (the chemical neurotransmitters in the brain which nerves use to communicate with each other). They do this by blocking their reuptake (absorption) and prolonging their activity.

Always follow directions given to you by your doctor.

Take this medication with food.

Try to take Anafranil around the same time every day as it can help ensure you don’t miss a dose.

Clomipramine has been known to increase the chance of suicidal thoughts or actions in people younger than 25 years of age. It is more common in those who experienced these thoughts prior to taking Anafranil.
