FAQs

What is Ramipril?

Ramipril is the active ingredient found inside Altace, a brand-name medication. Ramipril belongs to the drug class of ACE inhibitors (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors); these types of drugs have an effect on angiotensin II production in the body. Ramipril is also the name of the generic alternative for Altace; we carry both the brand and the generic form of Altace at My Drug Center. To purchase Altace (ramipril), a valid prescription is required.

What is Ramipril used for?

Ramipril is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Angiotensin II is a hormone produced (both systemically and locally) within the kidneys; these hormones narrow the blood vessels and raise blood pressure. Ramipril is effective at lowering blood pressure because it is able to inhibit the enzyme responsible for the hormone; this blocks the production of angiotensin and prevents the narrowing of blood vessels, which ultimately prevents high blood pressure. This medication may also be used for other conditions not listed here.

What is Ramipril 2.5mg used for?

Ramipril 2.5mg is used as the initial dose for treatment of high blood pressure, as well as other indications the medication may be prescribed for, such as congestive heart failure. 2.5mg is the lowest dose available; most doctors will begin you on a low dose while gradually increasing it until you have found a strength that is both effective and tolerable.

Ramipril how long to take effect?

Ramipril will begin to lower blood pressure only a few hours after starting treatment. However, you will likely not notice an improvement right away; it could take up to a few weeks before you feel the full effects of the drug. If you are taking this medication for heart failure, it could take longer; up to a few months.

Who makes Altace?

Altace is manufactured by Pfizer, an American multinational pharmaceutical corporation. Pfizer is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, producing many other popular brand-name medications such as Viagra (erectile dysfunction) and Lipitor (high cholesterol).
