Altace, which is made up of ramipril, is an ACE inhibitor (angiotensin converting enzyme). Altace comes in capsule form for oral administration, and is usually red, blue, orange or yellow (depending on the strength and if its brand or generic). We have both the brand (Altace) and the generic (ramipril) form of this medication available in 1.5mg, 2.5mg, 5mg, and 10mg.

Altace is prescribed to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. High blood pressure increases your chance of heart attack and stroke, as well as heart failure. Sometimes Altace also is prescribed to improve the survival chances after a heart attack has occurred.

This medication works by blocking the substance in your body that causes blood vessels to tighten (which causes higher blood pressure), this results in more relaxed blood vessels while increasing the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart, creating lower blood pressure.
