What is Aldara Cream for?

Aldara Cream is used to treat various types of skin growth, such as precancerous growths, a skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma, and warts on the outside of the genitals or anus. By treating these diseases you can decrease the chance of getting further complications from them. So how does imiquimod work? When applied, this medication is believed to work by assisting your immune system to activate and to fight off these abnormal skin growths. This medication only comes in the singular strength of 5%. How to use Aldara Cream?

As to how to use imiquimod, you should wash your hands and the troubled area before applying any of the medication to the affected area. Dry your hands and the area well afterward. Then apply a thin layer of the medication on the area and gently rub it in. Make sure to wash your hands afterwards. Also do not cover the affected area with any bandages or waterproof coverings. However, if approved by your doctor you may cover the area with cotton gauze or wear cotton underwear if treating the genital area.

Where can you buy Aldara Cream?

Medicare unfortunately does not cover this medication, and while you can buy it at your local pharmacy you may also find a more affordable option on an online Canadian Pharmacy such as My Drug Center. We have a starting price of $70.00 for 9 doses.

How long do Imiquimod side effects last?

The skin reactions tend to be at their worst in week 2 and 3 of the treatment. However, the redness is normal and the more sore and red the skin becomes, the better the actual treatment works. Redness and a bit of crusting will persist for around 2 weeks after the treatment course as finished as well.
