AeroChamber is a spacer (a holding chamber) that helps you use a metered dose inhaler (MDI). Meter dose inhalers are used when you need medicine to get directly to lungs, for faster efficiency than a pill or liquid form of medicine. They are often used in cases where people have lung disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The spacer makes the metered dose inhaler easy to use and decreases side effects that can occur while using a MDI. This product has the open to be bought separately or with a mask. Using a mask will make it even easier to use which is beneficial in cases where a child may have difficulties using this product.

You are able to purchase this product by itself or with a mask (a child mask and adult mask are both available). There is no generic alternative to this medication at the moment.

With mask:

·         Place mask on face, ensure mouth and nose are covered

·         Press inhaler once

·         Breathe in and out slowly and deeply atleast 6 times

·         Remove mask

·         Repeat as many times as directed by your doctor

Without mask:

·         Remove cap

·         Insert mouthpiece

·         Shake 3-4 times

·         Gently breathe out and place mouthpiece on tongue

·         Spray one puff

·         Breath in slowly and deeply through mouth for 3-5 seconds

·         Hold your breath for 10 seconds

·        Repeat as many times as directed by your doctor

What is an Aerochamber?

An Aerochamber is a holding chamber or spacer that assists in the delivery of medication to the small airways in the lungs. It includes a plastic tube with a mouthpiece, a valve to control mist delivery and a soft sealed end to hold the MDI. This product also comes along with a mask, which generally just makes the Aerochamber easier to use. How to use Aerochamber?

This is instructions in how to use an Aerochamber without a mask. First remove the cap from the end of the inhaler, and then remove the cap from the end of the spacer. When ready, insert the mouthpiece into the round opening in the rubber ring at the end of the spacer. Hold the spacer and inhale tightly. Be sure to then shake the spacer 3 to 4 times. Gently breathe out and then put the mouthpiece in your mouth, and on top of your tongue. Be sure to close your lips and even teeth around the mouthpiece. Spray one puff of the medication into the spacer. Breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth for the next 3 to 5 seconds. Next you should hold your breath for 10 seconds, and then exhale slowly. You may resume your normal breathing pattern.  Once finished, remove the inhaler from the back of the spacer, and replace both caps you had removed earlier. And as always be sure to rinse out your mouth and spit it out. Do not swallow. As to how to use Aerochamber with mask? It is relatively the same. However, you should make sure the mask creates a nice seal around your face, when you  begin to breath in the medication you should do so at least 6 times, be sure to take it in slowly and deeply. Once complete you may then remove the mask from your face, be sure to follow all the other steps listed here as well.

How to clean Aerochamber?

You should clean your Aerochamber once a week, since regular cleaning will prevent the accumulation of powder inside the actual spacer. To begin you should remove the back rubber pieces. You should then soak the Aerochamber for 15 minutes in luke warm water with a bit of liquid detergent. Simply move it along in the water with a gentle touch. Once clean rinse it in clean non soapy water. You may also place the Aerochamber in the dishwasher on the top rack. Keep in mind that the dishwasher temperature should be less than 158 degrees. When clean simply shake off the excess water. Do not rub it down to dry it. Instead let it air dry. Although, be sure to put it in a vertical position. Replace the rubber piece when the unit if completely dry and ready for use.
